Credentials

Criteria

The Open Badges 3.0 narrative describing how an achievement is earned — what the recipient did to qualify.

Open Badges 3.0 criteria is a short statement (typically plain text or a narrative object with a "narrative" string) that describes what the recipient demonstrated or completed to earn the credential. It lives inside achievement.criteria and is one of the required structural fields.

Criteria is where the accountability story lives. A credential that claims "completed Introduction to Machine Learning" is weak; a credential that claims "completed 12-week course with passing grade on final capstone project, graded against the attached rubric" is strong. Good criteria is what lets a recruiter or AI agent actually weigh the credential.

LearnCoin requires criteria in every issued credential and emits it verbatim into the signed JSONLD. Tenants are responsible for writing accurate criteria — and because it's cryptographically committed, tenants can't quietly weaken it later.
