European Accessibility Act
Also known as: EAA
The EU directive mandating accessibility for digital products and services — enforces WCAG 2.2 AA conformance for EU public-sector procurement from 2025.
The European Accessibility Act (EAA, Directive 2019/882) mandates accessibility for a wide range of digital products and services sold or provided in the EU, including public-sector procurement. Member states had until June 2025 to transpose it into national law. WCAG 2.2 Level AA is the de facto conformance requirement.
For LearnCoin and its tenants, the EAA matters because credentials delivered to EU residents (verification pages, claim flows, magic-link emails) are in scope. Public-sector tenants — EU universities, government agencies, public-health credentialing bodies — need their credential UX to meet the EAA baseline as part of standard procurement compliance.
LearnCoin's WCAG 2.2 AA commitment was informed directly by the EAA enforcement timeline. Competitors operating on WCAG 2.1 or lower risk losing EU public-sector procurement starting 2025-2026. The compliance gap is a meaningful differentiator for institutional sales.
